Today is the International Mother Language Day, and Microsoft will use the occasion to announce more support for the languages of India in several of its services. As of today, Microsoft says it will support email addresses in several languages of India through its various applications and email services.
In total, the move adds support for 15 languages, including:
Hindi
Bodo
Dogri
Konkani
Maithili
Marathi
Nepali
Sindhi
Bengali
Gujarati
Manipuri
Punjabi
Tamil
Telugu
Urdu
Email addresses are now supported in India in Office 365, Outlook 2016, Outlook.com and Outlook applications for Android and iOS. Exchange Online and Exchange Online Protection also support addresses in the previous languages.
Speaking about the addition of support for these languages, the Microsoft India COO, Meetul Patel, said that the measure represents a step forward in the elimination of language as a barrier to the adoption of technological and communication tools. From Patel:
