Microsoft initially imposed a deadline of May 13 in consumer users to switch to 8.1 from Windows Update.
Business users still have until August 12 to move the update for Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2. Microsoft has extended the deadline for updating those using Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), Windows In-tune, and / or System Center Configuration to update the users' computers. Microsoft executives unveiled the new term in mid-April, after protests from some that Microsoft was not giving sufficient lead time to apply the update.
Consumers who are using Windows 8.1 that Automatic Updates is enabled on doing nothing; would have to receive the update automatically via Windows Update.
Users who are on Windows 8, not Windows 8.1, shall not be required to upgrade to Windows 8.1 Update 10 June.
